Rachel Smith is an accomplished corporate and nonprofit communications strategist with over 15 years of experience managing grassroots public relations campaigns throughout California. Based in Sacramento, Smith has spent her career building and maintaining relationships with local and national media, elected officials, and influencers to help shape public opinion on behalf of her clients. Smith specializes in media relations and community engagement for clients in the technology, healthcare, and automotive industries.
Smith formed WordSmith Communications in 2017 after ten years as a Vice President and Media Relations Director at statewide public affairs agency. In this role she managed local and national PR campaigns for corporate and nonprofit clients including Ford Motor Company, McDonald's, Morgan Stanley, and the Consumer Technology Association.
As a lifelong Sacramentan, Smith is an active champion for the community dedicating her time and skillset to various local nonprofits and causes including Access Sacramento, Christian Brothers High School, and East Sacramento Chamber of Commerce.
Smith was named one of Sacramento’s 40 Under 40 by the Sacramento Business Journal in 2019.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University in 2007.
