WordSmith Communications is a boutique public relations firm specializing in media relations and event management.




Rachel Smith is an accomplished corporate and nonprofit communications strategist with nearly 20 years of experience managing grassroots public relations campaigns throughout California, particularly within her local community. Based in Sacramento, Smith has built a reputation for her expertise in cultivating relationships with local and national media, elected officials, and opinion leaders to effectively communicate and advocate for clients, influencing public perception positively. In addition to her work across various industries including technology, automotive, healthcare, and food and beverage, Smith possesses extensive local expertise, having promoted clients such as Front Street Animal Shelter, Tower Broadway, and B Street Theatre, enhancing their visibility and impact within the Sacramento region and beyond.

She founded WordSmith Communications in 2017, following a decade as Vice President and Media Relations Director at a statewide public affairs firm. There, she led agency efforts for clients such as Ford Motor Company and McDonald's, overseeing storytelling initiatives and crisis management across California.


As a proud lifelong resident of Sacramento, Smith is deeply engaged in giving back to her community. She volunteers her time and skills to support local nonprofits and causes such as Access Sacramento, Christian Brothers High School, and the East Sacramento Chamber of Commerce. 


In 2019, Smith was honored as one of Sacramento's 40 Under 40 by the Sacramento Business Journal, recognizing her outstanding contributions and leadership within the community.


She earned her Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University in 2007.
