WordSmith Communications is a boutique public relations firm specializing in media relations and event management.
Rachel Smith is an accomplished communications strategist with over 15 years of experience working in the public relations industry. She is the owner of WordSmith Communications, a boutique public relations firm based in Sacramento, California that specializes in media relations and event management.
Smith formed WordSmith Communications in 2017 after ten years as a Vice President and Media Relations Director at a midsize public affairs agency. In this role she managed statewide and national PR campaigns for corporate and political clients including Ford Motor Company, California Women Lead, and the Consumer Technology Association.
Smith has spent her career building and maintaining relationships with media, elected officials, and influencers to help shape public opinion on behalf of her clients. Smith specializes in branding, messaging and content development, event management, media relations, community engagement, and crisis communications.
As a lifelong Sacramentan, Smith is an active champion for the community dedicating her time and skillset to various local nonprofits and causes including Access Sacramento and East Sacramento Chamber of Commerce, where she serves on the PR Committee.
Smith was named one of Sacramento’s 40 Under 40 by the Sacramento Business Journal in 2019.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication from Arizona State University in 2007.
Smith lives in East Sacramento with her 4-year-old American Bully rescue, Scotland.

Cassie Kendall is a third year Sacramento State student studying Communication, Public Relations as well as Marketing. She is currently Account Coordinator at WordSmith Communications.
Cassie has been the Vice President of the Public Relation Student Society of America (PRSSA) for the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 semester. There, she is able to help students explore the endless opportunities of public relations by coordinating with professionals across the country to speak and spread wisdom for her chapter.
Outside of school, Cassie is an active member in the community by serving as an advocate for youth involvement. In 2019 Cassie was crowned Miss Fair Oaks by the Fair Oaks Chamber of Commerce and in 2020 served on the founding board for the Fair Oaks Youth Outreach (FOYO). There she took on the role of outreach coordinator and organized events such as Christmas in the Village, Fiesta Days, and the Best of Fair Oaks.
Her interests include event management, media relations, community engagement, and advertising. Along with volunteering with the Fair Oaks Chamber of Commerce and Orangevale Food Bank, Cassie spends her time supporting the arts by visiting the theatre whenever she can! She is a native to Sacramento and excited for her future in the world of PR!
